Highlight Your Cupids Bow

Beautégram: Gold Cupid’s Bows at Aganovitch
BY CHRISTINA HAN

All week, the Cut is live at Paris Fashion Week, bringing you the best in backstage beauty tips.

Backstage at the Aganovitch show in Paris, makeup artist Max Delorme was spotted delicately outlining models’ cupid’s bows with gold paint. “The collection is really powerful with lots of volume and color,” he said, while mixing yellow cream pigment with a dot of MAC’s greenish Old Gold pigment onto the back of his hand. “So the makeup is pure and minimalistic, which looks futuristic; the gold on the lip also acts like jewelry.” While painting high-impact gold pigment onto the lip (with nothing else) might not be an everyday thing, popping on a touch of your own pearlescent highlighter to that point on your lip will further define and accentuate the shape of your mouth.

Try putting Stila’s Illuminating Moisturizer lightly on the edges of your cupids bow. It will reflect the light and bring out the shape of your lip. Beautyful!

Vampy Lips at Do’s & Lipstick

A beautiful vampy lip reminiscent of a 1920′s film noir, paired with a quiet eye and immaculate skin is a fresh look for the holidays.

Shape your lips with a dark currant lip pencil, then take the side of the pencil and fill in. Blot with a tissue to remove excess oil and separate a two ply kleenex, use one of the pieces of tissue that you separated and use as a sifter. Take the kleenex, hold it over the lips and powder over the lips on the kleenex with a soft brush and sheer powder. This will keep your color on all night. Then apply your lipstick. Gorgeous!

Makeup Tips

 Hi Beauties!

Powder.  It seems like one of the most overused products.  Let’s start out with the functional uses for powder.  First,  it is used to take down shine, and Second, it is used to set concealer and foundation,  and Third, sometimes  it is used to lay down prior to applying eyeshadow or blush so the skin (if it’s too moist from moisturizer, foundation, etc.) won’t grab the color in an uneven manner.

As women get older we can lose some of the luster in our skin, so we don’t want to take the ‘shine’ off.  We look older if our skin looks dry and dull, which is exactly what powder does.  It also attaches itself to facial hair, so if you have any peach fuzz on your face, powder is not your friend.

It  collects in lines, wrinkles and large pores, therefore, showcasing things we’d rather not bring attention to. Use powder to set your concealer, as all concealers have oil in them and will move or migrate into the folds of the skin around the eyes.  By setting them properly with powder, your concealer will stay

put all day.  If you use a water based foundation or a lightweight foundation (like our custom blended foundation by Senna) you needn’t set it with powder.

After setting your concealer, I suggest taking a small brush (versus a giant powder brush) like Stila’s #9 and lightly go over your T-zone.  That is the only area you don’t want to appear shiny (forehead, bridge of nose and chin).  This way the rest of your face will retain a healthy glow and appear more youthful.

Makeup Tip

A common problem clients tell me about is that they feel their makeup is looking too heavy.
One of the reasons for this is there is too much product on the makeup brush. When you take your brush and put it in your blush (or eyeshadow) it is very important to ‘MAKE A PITSTOP’ . This means that prior to landing your brush on your skin, tap excess product off on the back of your hand or a tissue, and then you can apply. The reason for this is that when you initially put a brush in to product, there is more than enough makeup on there. So if you go directly from the product to the face, you now have all that excess on the area you are applying makeup to. It is always easier to add more makeup if necessary than to have to take away. You always want to use the ‘LEAST’ amount of makeup possible to get the best result.
So remember to ‘MAKE A PITSTOP’.

Makeup Tip of the Week

Makeup Tip of the Week #1 Lipstick

To create longevity for your  lipstick application:

l.  Line lips to show (and correct if needed) the SHAPE of your lips

2. Take the side of your lipliner and FILL IN the lips (this way you will never see a ‘line’ around the lips

3. Take a 2 ply kleenex and separate the 2 pieces.  Take one of the pieces of kleenex, place over lips and lightly powder lips by tapping a  powdered brush  over the kleenex.  The kleenex acts as a ‘SIFTER’ with the smallest amount of powder coming through the microscopic holes in the kleenex.  This step is essential and is what will keep your lipliner and lipstick on longer.

4.  Apply lipstick or gloss.  If you like, you can also just wear the lipliner by itself.  I like to do this on shoots for a matte look.  Very pretty.

Have a Beautyful week~
